How Dermatologist Earnings Vary

While the geographic location of a dermatology practice could certainly influence earnings, the bottom line is that you need to be able to accommodate an increase in the number of patients you’re seeing in order to affect your earnings, no matter where you’re located. In short, increasing your earnings as a dermatologist really comes down to a simple equation.

The Primary Factor that Affects a Dermatologist’s Earnings

The ability to increase the amount of money you earn as a dermatologist is directly correlated to the number of exam rooms you have, as this will determine the number of patients you can see in a day. If you divide the number of patients you see in a day by the number of exam rooms you have, you’ll know how many patients per exam room you are able to see per day.

Then, take your average daily income and divide by the number of exam rooms. Now you know how much money per exam room per day you make, as well as how many patients per exam room per day that you see. Most general dermatologists make about $150 per exam room per day, and cosmetic dermatologists typically make $300 to $400 per exam room per day.

If you think you fall short of what you should be making per exam room per day, there are a few ways you can increase the number of patients you see per exam room per day and your earnings per exam room per day. These include following some tips to increase your efficiency and saving time with standardized methodologies.
